What are Vitamin B12 Supplements?

Vitamin B12 supplements provide forms of cobalamin commonly used in nutrition, such as methylcobalamin or cyanocobalamin. Vitamin B12 is an essential nutrient found mainly in animal-based foods and is associated with normal energy metabolism, cognitive function, and the formation of red blood cells. Many people choose B12 supplements to help maintain adequate nutritional intake-especially those who follow plant-based diets or want to support their general wellbeing.

The Science Behind Vitamin B12 Supplements

Vitamin B12 has been widely studied for its involvement in normal biological processes, including energy metabolism and the formation of red blood cells. It also participates in typical methylation pathways and contributes to the normal functioning of the nervous system. Because B12 is primarily obtained from dietary sources and depends on normal digestive absorption, supplements are often used to help individuals maintain healthy levels as part of their overall nutritional routine.

Vitamin B12 Benefits

  • Nervous System

Vitamin B12 is associated with the normal functioning of the nervous system and contributes to healthy nerve signalling.

  • Red Blood Cell Support

Plays a role in the body's natural process of forming red blood cells.

  • Energy Metabolism

Vitamin B12 contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism, which is why many people take it as part of their daily wellness routine.

  • Supports DNA Processes

Involved in normal cell division and typical DNA synthesis pathways.

  • Cognitive Wellbeing

B12 contributes to normal psychological function, making it a popular choice for general cognitive wellness.

  • General Cardiovascular Support

Vitamin B12 from foods or supplements follows the body's natural digestive process. It binds with intrinsic factor in the stomach, allowing it to be absorbed in the small intestine and carried through the bloodstream to tissues that use it.

How Vitamin B12 Works

1

Absorption and Transport

Vitamin B12 from foods or supplements follows the body's natural digestive process. It binds with intrinsic factor in the stomach, allowing it to be absorbed in the small intestine and carried through the bloodstream to tissues that use it.

2

Participation in Normal Cellular Processes

After absorption, vitamin B12 acts as a cofactor in everyday metabolic pathways. It supports normal methylation activity and contributes to typical biochemical reactions involved in maintaining general cellular function.

3

Nervous System & Red Blood Cell Support

Vitamin B12 is associated with the body's natural process of forming red blood cells and plays a role in maintaining normal nervous system function. These are well-recognised biological roles of B12 in general nutrition science.

As a vegan I have to take B12. The animals that people eat are actually fed b12 into their diet. The only other way to get it is through soil, but people don't do their own gardening any more. Hence why us vegans need our b12.
